April 28 – National Day of Mourning

DofM-Web-Slider

Each year on April 28, we pause for a moment to honour and remember those lives that have been forever changed by a workplace fatality, and to renew our commitment to workplace health and safety. In 1984, the Canadian Labour Congress first declared April 28th Canada’s Day of Mourning. This year (2016) marks its 32nd anniversary. Join one of the ceremonies across the country, light your own candle, or simply stop what you’re doing for a moment on April 28.

Each year, the National Day of Mourning is a stark reminder of why we do the work that we do. Too many families have been torn apart. Too many lives have been lost or changed forever, and it affects all of us. No paycheck is worth a life and no job is worth dying for.
