Our Story

The SiS Foundation of Canada is a non profit organization established in 2011 to deliver Occupational Health and Safety eLearning courses free to high school students. From our grassroots beginnings that started with one school and seven students we are now in 450+ schools in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Over 150,000 SiS students have received industry-recognized certificates, that’s an in-kind donation of well over $6,000,000.00 as of January 2023 by co-founder SWIFT Learning. Most importantly, students can not only add this certificate to their resumes but, as they step out into the workplace, they are better educated and more empowered to stay safe at work, school, home, and at play.

Today, our SiS Vision Statement is to educate and empower youth to stay safe and live their best life, mentally, physically, and financially. Chairman of the Board, Kim Adolphe along with her dedicated team at SWIFT Learning, volunteer board members, government, non profit association partners, and our generous sponsors are committed to that vision.

In 2020 we launched a Mental Health and Well-being course. This was the beginning of our expansion into Mental Health, Well-being  and Active Lifestyle programs. That was followed by SAHARA ™ (Safety And Health Awareness Risk Assessment), a patent pending, cloud-based, risk assessment, safety, and mental health management, and training technology, program developed by SWIFT Learning.

The SWIFT SaaS Platform allows us to continue to develop innovative programs that are accessible in over 100 languages on all devices. We will continue to capitalize on this technology to launch valuable new programs that educate and empower our youth. The face of education has changed forever due to COVID, but SiS was leading the way long before the pandemic and will continue to lead the way long after.

Our mission is to remove barriers and equip our youth with the tools and knowledge they need to stay safe, find their passion, and make good choices for success at school, work, home and at play…for life!

SiS offers more than 70+ eLearning courses and the SAHARA 4 Youth programs, including Service Hospitality and Tourism, Welding, Energy and Resources, and Residential Fire Safety, a partnership with the Calgary Fire Department. We also offer safety tips and more through our video library and custom courses developed in partnership with government and industry.

Kim Adophe, CEO of SWIFT Learning and SiS co-founder and Chairman of the Board, is a passionate supporter of workplace safety, mental health, brain health, and living an active lifestyle for young people.  The dedicated team at SWIFT Learning oversees the management of SiS.

SWIFT creates highly-effective, competency-based eLearning courses using their Software as a Service SWIFT Platform working closely with industry-recognized Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).  All SWIFT courses are available in over 100 languages and accessible on all devices.

SWIFT is a social enterprise that donates their cloud-hosted Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) library and other eLearning courses to high schools throughout Canada through SiS as well as to sports associations and student athletes.  Their contribution to SiS alone represents over $5 million to date.

Creative Sentencing

SiS has worked closely with the Alberta Government through the Alberta-based Creative Sentencing program that fines companies for OHS infractions.  The funds are allocated towards developing programs to prevent similar incidents in the future.

SiS was awarded our first Creative Sentencing project in 2014 and completed our sixth in 2019. Six online courses, one video (Tragedy at the Quarry) and essay contest, and seven school speaking tours have been funded through Creative Sentencing – reaching more than 9,400 Alberta students with lessons drawn from real life incidents, shared by the actual people involved in them.

SiS actively engages with Alberta OHS investigators and industry associations on an ongoing basis. Often we speak directly with survivors of workplace injuries, families of deceased workers, and employers convicted of OHS infractions to gain more insight. This exposure has also given us an opportunity to witness the positive impact this unique to Alberta program provides to what are otherwise tragic and preventable accidents.
